The following is an excerpt from Hondo’s much-anticipated book, “Saved from What?”
I believe the church world is ignorant of what we are saved from. If you were to take a poll, you would hear people say, “I guess I’m saved from hell,” or “I’m saved from Satan.” Most people do not know the specifics of what salvation is. I want to help you understand the foundational truth of the Gospel.
Anytime you want to know foundational truth about the Gospel, you turn to John 3.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NASB
This verse is Gospel, fundamental truth. It is the purpose and meaning of the Gospel. Look at what Romans tells us,
“Do not be conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 NASB
Paul is telling us here that if we are going to walk the Christian walk, if we are going to have success, we have got to put on a new mindset. We’ve got to change not only our thoughts but also our words. What you speak is what you believe, and what you speak is what you get. Fundamentally you’ve got to change your thinking because if you don’t change your thinking as a believer, you will not be successful, and you will live a defeated Christian life. Foundational Gospel truth here is getting control of your mind.
Satan is not the lord of this earth, but he is the lord of this world. Your thought life is continuously being influenced. Every time you turn on the radio or television, your thought life is being affected. Sadly, many times, the people giving us nontruthful things to think about are churches. This is why Paul, in the book of Romans, is telling us that if we want to be successful, we have got to change our thinking.
“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who although He existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8 NASB
Attitude in verse 5 in the KJV is translated as mind. So, he is saying, have the mindset of Jesus. The Bible commands us to put on the mind of Christ. This does not mean you put on the mind of Christ once and then take it off like a hat. He says to keep it on. Can you imagine what it would be like if people would not just have the mind of Christ on Sunday when they are at church? Can you imagine if you run your business that way, or husbands if you run your homes and your marriages like this? If we, as individuals, communicated with others with the mind of Christ, oh how much better we would all be! If you are going to understand all that salvation entails for you, know what you are saved from, and walk in the victory that salvation bought for you. You have to change your mind and put on the mind of Christ.
“And if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.” Romans 8:17 NASB
Did you know that you are an heir with Christ? When you get saved, you become an heir with Jesus. Everything that Jesus is an heir of, you are an heir of. Jesus got a new body you’re going to get a new body. Jesus didn’t walk in poverty; you’re not supposed to walk in poverty. Jesus didn’t walk in sickness and disease; you’re not supposed to walk in sickness and disease. Jesus didn’t walk without the Holy Ghost; you’re not supposed to walk without the Holy Ghost. Jesus didn’t walk defeated with a life separated from God; you’re not supposed to walk defeated and live a life separated from God. We know that Jesus is the only person that God ever sent to hell. Everyone else has thrown themselves. Why? The Bible says we can join in His suffering since He did it for us, we don’t have to do it, and we are joint-heirs with Jesus.
You need to begin to change your mindset and thinking and begin to understand you are an heir with Jesus. You are entitled to this. If you have a wealthy father who passes away and he leaves you a large sum of money, you don’t say, ‘well, I don’t want it.’ No, you take the money because it was left for you. God, the Father, left us an inheritance we are joint-heirs with Jesus. We need to start training our churches and training our believers to think like believers.
