“Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed him, so that the mute man spoke and saw. All the crowds were amazed, and were saying, ‘This man cannot be the Son of David, can he?’ But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, ‘This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.’ And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, ‘Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand? If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason, they will be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you or how can anyone enter the strong man’s house and carry off his property, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. He who is not with Me is against me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters. Therefore, I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. Either make the tree good and its fruit good or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil. But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.’” Matthew 12:22-37 NASB
I know a family who is saved, the man was a deacon in his church, and his grandson was dying of cancer. The family has said that the works of the Holy Spirit are not for today. They have used this scripture right here. You could almost write this about them. The dad, who was a deacon at one time, will still say, well, I don’t believe it, if God wanted to work, He would have healed my grandson. The kid’s mom recently told someone that she doesn’t even pray anymore because God doesn’t answer her prayers. That is blasphemy! If you say that God doesn’t answer prayer, then you are saying that you believe your emotions and feelings more than you believe the Bible. If you say that God doesn’t answer your prayers or hear your prayers, then you are negating your salvation from when you prayed and asked Him to save you because you just said God doesn’t answer your prayers. My heart breaks for this family because I want them to walk in the Word, I want them to look, and see, and know why God didn’t heal their son, it was because they didn’t believe and stand on God’s Word. The same God that they said, ‘we don’t believe that’ about is the same God that they asked for a miracle from. This same family has a son that got into the Word of Faith message and the dad ripped him for it and told him he didn’t believe it, it doesn’t work, the son walks away from the faith, they have a grandson that dies and the whole family is upset and in chaos, because they chose not to believe the God that the entire time they said they didn’t believe! Too many people curse God and then blame Him when He doesn’t move.
“For we, through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ, Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything but faith working through love.” Galatians 5:5-6 NASB
No love, no faith. Faith works by love. Another thing you have to ask yourself when it seems faith isn’t working is, are you walking in love with people? It doesn’t matter what denomination you are a Baptist isn’t more spiritual than a Catholic. Just because you operate in faith and God is blessing you doesn’t mean God loves you more, it just means you know how to put the key in the ignition and start the car. God has given you both a car, just because you drive doesn’t make you better because they have a car too, they just don’t know how to drive it. Faith works by love. Let’s look at another thing to check when it seems your faith isn’t working. Look at Malachi 3.
“Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the whole nation of You! Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.
Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes, says the Lord of hosts.” Malachi 3:8-11 NASB
Another reason your faith might not be working is if you are not tithing. The Bible tells us we will be cursed or blessed. If you are not giving your tithes and your offerings, you are cursed, and it is your fault. Look at 2 Corinthians 9,
“Now this I say, he who sows sparingly and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NASB
When you give cheerfully, God is always going to show you grace, and you are always going to have money to give. I love to go to a gas station and see someone in line and be able to pay for their gas or their coffee. Every time my son and I go to a restaurant, he chooses someone for us to buy their meal for. This is the definition of prosperity, always having all sufficiency in everything so you can abound to every good work. It means you will have all the money you need to meet your needs and have money left over to give. I believe that God wants us to have beautiful homes, nice cars, nice things. But some people go so far with prosperity, the purpose of the gospel is to prosper you so you can live a happy and joyful life, God wants you to have abundance, but it is so you can give. It is not all about you. God loves a cheerful giver. Are you giving tithes, are you giving offerings, and are you doing it cheerfully?
Another thing you need to ask yourself when it seems faith isn’t working is, am I taking communion wrongly?
“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks, eats, and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.” 1 Corinthians 11:26-29 NASB
If you, as a believer, eat the bread and drink the cup in an unworthy manner, you bring judgment on yourself. Are you living in sin and coming to church on Sunday, taking communion, then going the rest of the week living in the same sin? Faith isn’t going to work if you are taking communion in an unworthy manner.
“Then behold a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. He said to me, ‘O Daniel, man of high esteem, understand the words that I am about to tell you and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.’ And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. Then he said to me, ‘Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. Now I have come to give you an understanding of what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision pertains to the days yet future.’” Daniel 10:10-14 NASB
Now, if you are one that says God doesn’t hear your prayers, then you are calling God a liar. The moment God heard Daniels prayer, God sent an answer, but spiritual warfare began going on. Twenty-one days, Daniel waited. Some of you are saying, ‘I am good on all the things you have written about,’ well, then you are in that waiting period. There is a spiritual battle going on. That is why I am constantly sending out angels to bring in answers to my prayers. Daniel believed God the whole time this was going on. At any time, he could have said, well, it didn’t work and walked away, and the angel would have gone back to heaven. God heard him, and he stayed faithful, and he got his answer. Look at Proverbs,
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21 NASB
People say, well it’s not working for me, if you say that, you will eat that fruit and it won’t work for you. Look at Revelation 22,
“And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:19 NASB
God says here that if you add or take away from the Bible, He is going to take heaven away from you. God doesn’t want people lying about Him. Do you understand how powerful that is? When people say they don’t believe something that is in the Bible or say that the works of the Holy Spirit are of the devil? If you add or take away, you are cursed! Let me tell you something, never blame God!
If you are doing all of these things that we have talked about and it still appears your faith isn’t working, then there are only two things left. Look at Matthew 22,
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:39 NASB
“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.” Matthew 6:14-15 NASB
He is saying love your neighbor as yourself and forgive your neighbor. So, if God wants you to love your neighbor enough to forgive him, God wants you to forgive you.
“Then Peter came and said to Him, ‘Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ’I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.’” Matthew 18:21-22 NASB
God says, forgive yourself. You may be doing everything that I have written so far, but remember the story I told about the man in the military who paid for the abortion? He never forgave himself. You may be someone who goes to church and plays Christian, raises your hands, takes communion, but leaves and commits adultery all week. You know you are a liar, and you have to forgive yourself. This is where people get into eating disorders, cutting, or other destructive behaviors because they know. Ask yourself, what haven’t you forgiven yourself for, what are you doing wrong? I know a dad whose son got sick and died. I went to his house one day to check on him and asked how he was doing. He told me, he could never forgive himself, I asked him why, thinking he was mad at God, and he said, you know, I hadn’t been tithing, I had gotten a raise and kept my tithe where it was because I wanted to get out of debt and I know I brought a curse on my family. I told him, brother, God will forgive you, let’s get you back on track, so none of your other kids die!
